Traditional hardwood flooring products are usually divided into three major kinds of solid hardwood flooring. They all come in pre-finished or unfinished. Pre-finished is ready for installation. Unfinished needs sanding and finishing after it's installed. The width and thickness of the planks defines strip hardwood flooring. It has a standard width, but variations of thickness. The available thicknesses are 1 1/2 inches, 2 inches, and 2 3/4 inches, and 3 1/4 inches. The widths are 5/16 of an inch up to 3/4 of an inch. Plank flooring can vary in width from 3 inches up to 8 inches. The thickness comes in 1/2 of an inch and 3/4 of an inch. Parquet flooring has a different image than normal wood floors because it is made of slats composing geometrical patterns. Adhesive or mechanical fasteners keep them together.
