Acid Stained Concrete Floor Care

Keep Your Floor Beautiful!

If your stained concrete floor is acid-stained, you may have a concrete sealer that was added to help resist water, stains, and dirt, and abrasives. This makes the job easy!

Keeping your stained or polished concrete floor clean should be relatively simple. Keith Clay Floors recommends that you talk to the concrete contractor who stained your floor about specific instructions for the specific products and colors used for your floor before you begin the cleaning process.

Let's talk for a minute about the different ways to clean your concrete to keep it beautiful. There are more than just one way and depending on the type of finish and sealers will determine the best way to maintain it's beauty. For general cleaning, use water and scrub with a soft, non-metallic brush to see if this removes the surface dirt.

If the dirt still remains, step up to water with a mild soap, then water with a stronger soap, then water with a stronger soap plus ammonia.

If a sealer has been previously applied to the concrete surface, the surface may only need a light, general cleaning and to have the sealer reapplied or touched up in high traffic areas.

However, if the concrete has ground in dirt or grime, the substance should be removed prior to installing a sealer. And the surface must be penetrated to do so.

For cleaning polished concrete, keeping it polished does require effort and expense, however we recommend regular care for optimum beauty.

Keith Clay Floors has found over the last 20 years, that a simple maintenance program of occasional dusting to remove grit and damp mopping with a neutral cleaner will enhance the shine. There are many manufacturers that sell special cleaners and conditioners for polished concrete that not only clean the surface, but also leave behind a dirt-resistant film. These products can be applied with a mop or auto scrubber and do not require buffing.

Overall, with basic cleaning, polished concrete should keep its luster for years. When the shine appears to be dull, especially in high-traffic areas give us a call. Fortunately, it's easy to restore the gleam. Sometimes simply buffing the floor with a commercial polishing compound will do the trick. If more touch-up is necessary, the floors can be lightly re-polished with a fine-grit abrasive. Either way, Keith Clay Floors will be able to let you know what will really make that floor gleam.
